A Beginners Guide to French TV Series 📺🇫🇷

French can be a tricky language for a few and an easy one for others. While learning any language, we need to immerse ourselves into their culture, books, movies and shows to get a better view of the language. Living in a country like India where English has almost taken over the colloquial languages, it is extremely hard to find a person whom you can converse with on a daily basis. This might sound a little crazy but I've even started to talk to myself in French. 😁
There are a good amount of French Shows on Netflix. Prime (India) doesn't have French TV shows as such, but I realised they have French audio for a few English TV shows. I would recommend you to start with English shows/ movies with French audio, mainly because you know the story and you can focus more on the audio and pronunciations.
So check out the trailer and at least watch 1 episode to decide if you want to continue. Trust me, give these shows a try.
Here are a few that I really liked:
1. Dix Pour Cent: 🎬
(Comedy drama), Rated 8.3 on IMDb
Also known as Call My Agent ! The show revolves around a Parisian Talent Agency A.S.K, agents trying to keep up with their clients. The focus is mainly on the agents lives and its complexities. This show is one of kind. The main actors are so natural, especially when you actually spot a famous celebrity acting as a famous celebrity, it's hilarious. Once you get used to the show and understand it and the characters. Trust me you will get hooked on to it.
Available on Netflix. All three seasons are on it, has been renewed for the forth.
2. The Circle France: ⭕️
(Reality TV), Rated 7.4 on IMDb
This is a reality show. But even if you are not a big fan of reality shows. You must you to watch it. The reason being, its very recent and gives you an insight to messaging and common French slangs. So this would really help you to learn how to start a general conversation in French.
This show revolves around a bunch of people living in different rooms in the same apartment buildings and they try to either catfish other participants or portray themselves. The participants never meet face to face until a certain situation arises. They have to create a social media profiles of themselves or the fake identity, make friends, try to be liked by everyone and not get eliminated. Of course, there will be small tasks. I don't want to give everything away.
Just go check it out on Netflix. It has one season.
3. Le Bureau: 💼
(Political Thriller), Rated 8.7 on IMDb
Sadly this show isn't available on Netflix. I watched it through a random site online. But it is available Prime US, this again depends which part of the world you live in.
This show is about a life of a spy in Frances. I don't want to give the plot out or any spoiler.
All in all its a really different show and it is very addicting. This show has 5 season and is on going.
4. Zone Blanche: 🌳
(Suspense, Crime), Rated 7.5 on IMDb
Usually I'm not a person who watches suspense and mystery shows, cause I'm impatient and I tend to get bored easily. But this show really made me like it. Especially with Nounours and his cute friend. You'll understand when you watch the show. You will also love him.❤️
Coming to the plot, a small creepy town, a lot of murders take place, a cop with a troubled past tries to solve them with a new prosector, and more. I know these might sound like rand phrases. But this show, gave me Dark vibes but its really good.
And it has two seasons on Netflix and is not exactly cancelled. I'm patiently waiting for a Season 2.
5. Plan Coeur: 💔
(Drama, Romance), Rated 7.2 on IMDb
Want to watch a feel good show ? Are you bored ? Badly want to watch something thats a mix of Jane the Virgin or Good Girls ?
Voila ! Plan Coeur is the show for you. This show is funny, cute and everything in between. It's about three amazing girlfriends, who are very different in their own way and how they all love each other. So, one of the friend has a break up and her friends help her move on by setting her up with a ............ Go !! Watch the show. No spoilers remember.
It has two seasons. The third season will most probably come in December 2021 on Netflix.
